Linda Owen Cantrill
Founder, SpiritedBalance,llc
My journey in Geriatrics began in the early 1980s when I joined the Commission on Aging and Visitation under the esteemed guidance of Sister Pat Murphy, Ph.D. My initial role involved recruiting, training, and placing "Friendly Volunteers" in nursing homes, and becoming a Long-Term Care Ombudsmen. It was a transformative experience that deepened my understanding of the social and emotional needs of older adults. This experience motivated me to pursue a Degrees in Therapeutic Recreation and Aging/Geriatrics.
I have developed and taught Fall Prevention, Senior Fitness, Therapeutic Pilates and Recreation programs across various platforms, including institutions, healthcare systems, community centers, and for individuals, all aimed at fall prevention, integrating diverse fitness and therapeutic models. These modalities not only bolster physical strength but also improve balance, flexibility, and overall body awareness, which are crucial in reducing the risk of falls, among our older adult population.
