Strength & Functional Fitness

Linda facilitates strength and conditioning through Pilates. This practice provides a creative option targeting each system needed to improve balance, mobility and core stability.

Pilates-based exercises can significantly improve static and dynamic balance, ankle range of motion, functional mobility, and reduce fall risk. Strength and conditioning can:

  • Improve posture and walking stability

  • Walk without pain in your feet

  • Stretch, strengthen, and balance your body

Linda’s Therapeutic Pilates Balance Training System incorporates the best elements of Pilates training.

Linda teaches Therapeutic Pilates to all ages. She has completed 7 years of training under the mentorship of renowned Pilates instructor, anatomist and fascia educator Marie-José Blom.

Fall Prevention Training

FallProof™ was recognized in 2003 by the National Council on Aging as one of seven exemplary model programs in the United States promoting healthy aging and improved quality of life.

The goal of the group-based or individual training in FallProof™ Balance and Mobility program is to promote functional independence by improving or modifying the risk factors that contribute to heightened fall risk among “at risk” and physically frail older adults.

An important objective of the program is to challenge, but not exceed, the individual’s intrinsic capabilities by systematically introducing balance and mobility tasks of increasing complexity that are to be performed in a variety of practice environments that simulate those encountered during daily life.

Fall prevention training focuses on elevating the function of the sensory, motor, and cognitive systems through four core program components:

  1. Volitional and non-volitional control of the center of gravity

  2. Sensory reception and integration skills

  3. Selection and scaling of postural control strategies

  4. Development of a flexible and adaptable gait pattern

Parkinsons – Big and Loud Program (LVST)

LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally, and improves balance and mobility for any activity. It is customized to each person’s specific needs and goals, it can help regardless of the stage or severity of your condition.

“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the end of 2007. Immediately following a period of denial and mourning, I was determined to conquer this dreaded disease. Following this, Guilford Glazer, the wonderful grandfather of my children, sent over Linda Cantrill, a Certified Balance and Mobility Therapist. This changed my life. Although on various medications, I was still plagued with the shuffling of feet, rigid muscles, frozen shoulder and extreme fatigue. Linda Cantrill single-handedly, through five years of rigorous tri-weekly balance, functional, cardio, swimming, yoga, and pilates training, helped create new neural pathways in my brain.

This along with her positive attitude, unequalled dedication, continuous education, amazing wit, the will to never ever give up has resulted in a well-functioning shoulder, proper walking, physically fit physique, less rigidity in my muscles, and a better quality of life. Now I am even able to ride a bicycle with no difficulties.I am eternally grateful to Guilford Glazer, Linda Cantrill, my wife, children, family, friends, and my neurologist, Dr. Hart Cohen, for their unanimous, amazing support. Without it, I would not have been able to accomplish such great success in reversing these symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Nothing short of miraculous, I would highly recommend anyone with neurological disorders to be in touch with this amazing spirit.”

What Spirited Balance Clients Are Saying

“I learned a lot about balance & muscle memory. Many of the exercises helped strengthen weak muscles. I also became aware of how my muscles were working. Linda is very informed but is also a lot of fun to work with. I am very grateful for all I learned in the class.”

– Karen Bello, Multiple Sclerosis student

“I have worked with Linda on several professional levels and projects, and she is a pure joy! Only her knowledge is surpassed by her enthusiasm! I fully trust Linda on her meticulous work and care with my balance patients and I see the results with reduced falls and increase mobility. Nothing speaks more volumes of praise to Linda’s care as a client returning to a full and active lifestyle.”

– Greg Cox, Co-owner of Los Angeles Balance Disorders Institute

I have been working virtually with Linda since March.  I had a hip and knee replacement this year and really needed some post recovery strength and balance training. Linda is very focused and prepared custom workouts for me weekly.  She is motivating yet compassionate; she pushes you to advance but listens if you are struggling and adding the increased balance focus was a big plus, I am a nurse and after 4 months I am back to work and on my feet all day, I’ve also started cycling and hiking.  Working out with Linda 2 times a week on zoom has become some of the best parts of my week.
